Opportunity is the gateway to success. We are focused on creating opportunity in the rural areas of upstate NY for student-athletes to be exposed to the game of soccer at a high level. Coaches willing to invest in this opportunity may find their diamond in the rough.
Misconception:
Rural communities don't have talent, money or reach.
Truth
The biggest hurdle to our rural kids getting opportunities is travel. Most families, even if they want to, can not get their athletes to and from soccer training. (40 minutes away)
We are looking to bring these events to them.
Big events in small town... has it's advantages :)
Amber Johns is the director for Fellowship of Christian Athletes. She has coached soccer at the high school level after playing Division 1 soccer for Liberty University. Gregg Johns, PE and head soccer coach for the local high school also played Division for Canisius College. Both have dedicated their lives to the athletes they have coached (and raised...Austin and Andrew are currently both premiere high school athletes) . The opportunity to work through FCA and their local Valley Soccer Fields is a HUGE blessing.
The rural kid initiative came as an idea when several athletes had the interest to pursue a better soccer level, but didn't have the transportation to make it happen.
Small rural schools such as Middleburgh and Schoharie Schools alone have produced several Div 1, 2 and 3 athletes to colleges such as Sienna, Maryland, Iona, Univ. of Vermont, Loyola, St. Rose, Oneonta State and many more.
FCA in partnership with local businesses intends to bring the best to these clinics. For coaches interested in working the ID camp (dates coming) We welcome you to reach out. A college coach has great influence on the next generation and we hope this camp will not only make them better players, but players with a purpose.
